Emergencies

If you or your child is experiencing a life threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. If you need to contact Dr. Hartt after hours about an urgent matter that can not wait until the next business day, call the office and listen to the recorded message for an emergency phone number. Psychiatric emergencies can arise from acute deterioration of mental state, putting the individual and others in imminent danger due to suicidal or homocidal ideations, hallucinations, delusions, or from a severe reaction to medication.

A patient in crisis will be assessed in any emergency room. Hospitalization for safety and stabilization may be required. If the hospital doesn't have a psychiatric unit, the patient will be transferred to an appropriate facility.

Listed below are hospitals that have the capacity not just to evaluate, but also accept patients for inpatient treatment:

The hospitals below do not have emergency rooms, but do emergent assessments 24/7. In these hospitals, doctors are not present on site at all times, but can be called in to evaluate a patient when necessary. You will need to call prior to arrival to the admission office so arrangements can be made for a doctor to come in.

Crisis lines may assist you in emergency:

While an inpatient, one is followed by a psychiatrist affiliated with the hospital. Dr. Hartt will attempt to communicate with that doctor for continuity of care.
